The 1995/96 season was a belter. Here is a little slither of it.

Apparently, today marks nineteenth anniversary of one of my favourite ever Sunderland games - beating Millwall 6-0 at Roker Park to make everyone believe promotion was a serious possibility.

Craig Russell scored four that day, but sadly I can't find a video of that particular game, the then-dubbed 'Lion Tamers'. That didn't stop me wanting to walk along in a Craig Russell wonderland, though.

So here are the goals from another huge game in the season. Derby were Sunderland's main title rivals and were promoted with us at the end of the season. They arrived at Roker Park in fine form, but were absolutely battered with Russell bagging himself a couple. He even got one with his right foot!

That was a really nice Sunderland team to watch and it was great having a proper Sunderland fan spearheading it as top scorer. Definitely one of my favourite Sunderland sides.

Enjoy!

The big Belgian isn't rubbish, so don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

Sunderland will be reunited with Simon Mignolet at Anfield tomorrow and, to be perfectly honest, the Liverpool stopper is really struggling right now.

In fact, he's almost become a bit of a figure of fun on social media, which is one of the drawbacks to the increased spotlight of a huge club, I guess.

However, his current Liverpool difficulties shouldn't detract from what he achieved at Sunderland, so it's nice to remind everyone - Liverpool fans included - just how good he can be and indeed was for us for a couple of years.

You could argue that there was more to do and less pressure in Sunderland's goal compared to Liverpool's, but he was still bloody brilliant and the vast majority were gutted to see him go.

Hopefully he won't regain this sort of form for another couple of days, though!

JiiiiiiIIIIIIII!!!!!

There could only really be one candidate for the daily video today, right?

Ji Dong-won's Sunderland career won't be remembered with much affection, but it will be remembered, and this goal was the reason why. Deep into injury time, the Korean skipped passed Joe Hart to seal a 1-0 win over the previously imperious Citizens.

The celebrations are legendary, Martin Tyler's commentary timeless. Even the Chinese commentary was amazing. Another moment and result like it tonight would be just brilliant.

Daryl Murphy - not bad at all.

I was looking at the top scorers in the Championship earlier and there was a familiar yet slightly surprising name there - Daryl Murphy.

I probably shouldn't have been surprised, though. Murphy was an often-maligned figure at Sunderland, due mainly to stuff like being out-jumped by Shaun Wright-Phillips and others players of diminutive stature, but he was still a very good player at Championship level.

His goals were a feature of Roy Keane's side that romped to the title, and when he stepped up into the Premier League he was capable of the odd moment of brilliance.

This was the most brilliant of all. A stunning left-foot raker into the top corner to seal a big three points against Wigan.

We've had some great days against Chelsea in the past, and this was perhaps the best of the modern era.

Chelsea are headed our way and any kind of a result would be a major bonus given the form they are in, but Sunderland have an oddly decent record against the Blues.

There have been a few very high profile wins over the years, but none are more special to me personally than the 1992 win in the FA Cup Quarter Final at Roker Park.

It was all set up beautifully. Ian Porterfield in the Chelsea dug-out, a semi-final spot the prize and an absolutely bouncing, believing, Roker Park.

The easy thing to do here would be to just to post a video of Gordon Armstrong's famous last-gasp winner but, instead of that, here (in 2 parts) is the full highlights.

Enjoy!

Is this a happy Sunderland video, or a sad one ? Make up your own minds.

As I'm sure most have now seen, Darren Bent has signed for Brighton on loan. Personally, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

It's quite easy to revel in his fall from grace, There can't be many who have gone from being a prolific £24m Premier League striker to a Championship loanee in such a short space of time. He's still only 30 - a relatively young man.

He was also relegated last season whilst on loan at Fulham and struggled to get games from any of their managers, which was quite a feat too. It's funny - in a way.

It's also a bit sad, though. Watching this video, you remember just how good Bent was for Sunderland. He scored loads of goals and all different types of goals too. He fed off the energy from the crowd - who were desperate for a hero - and gave plenty back in return.

It shouldn't have ended they way it did. Bent should still be Sunderland's talisman and enjoying a genuinely special relationship with the supporters. That's the way I see it, anyway. This was his club - the one for him - the one that worked. He blew it, and everyone has suffered for it.

The ironic thing was I remember at the height of his form in the north east, everyone said that Sunderland were too overly reliant on him. It seems that even he believed it. As it has turned out, it seems pretty clear that, actually, Darren Bent was overly reliant on Sunderland.

What a waste.

Anyway, enjoy the video. Bent and Sunderland were, briefly, a match made in heaven.

Bit of a treat for our daily video today. Kieran Richardson's derby day thunderbolt, recorded from THE perfect angle.

Watching Aston Villa v Southampton last night, I couldn't help but notice a pretty relaxed-looking Kieran Richardson sat on the Villa bench. How can anyone possibly catch a glimpse of Kieran without your mind drifting to the moment where he walloped the ball into the Newcastle net at about 1000mph?

Well, I certainly couldn't!

It's a goal most have seen again and again, but I remember at the time seeing an absolutely belting view of it taken from a camera phone in the North Stand upper, which was then a home section of the ground.

So, I decided I'd look for that specific video as our daily video. Turned out, it was still floating around the interweb.

This is one of those videos you could genuinely just put on a loop and watch again and again. Perfect hit, perfect time, perfect opposition.

Enjoy.

Another important home game is rapidly approaching, so let's take a quick look back at Sebastian Larsson's fabulous strike which gave the Lads a 1-0 lead against Everton last time out at the Stadium of Light.

It's Vine Time!

Swedish star Seb Larsson recently broke the record for the number of international caps earned while at Sunderland, beating previous holder Charlie Hurley who'd gripped tightly onto the title for 45 years.

In ode to that significant achievement, and Larsson's fine form for Sunderland so far this season, we thought we'd go back a couple of weeks in order to relive the midfielder's wonderful free-kick against Everton in an eventual 1-1 draw with the Toffees.

Here's hoping for a repeat on Saturday when Seb and Sunderland take on Premier League leaders Chelsea in a 5:30pm kick-off at the Stadium of Light!
