Sunderland v Newcastle United - Emirates FA Cup Third Round

Starting XI: Is this the Sunderland team that will face Ipswich today?

Will we see many – any – changes today?

Last week was a shambles, but hopefully we can get back on track league wise when we take on Ipswich at Portman Road. With players still out and no new signings, there’s not too much room for manoeuvre team wise, and I don’t think we’ll see many changes. I’m going for just the one...

Goalkeeper: Anthony Patterson

Straightforward choice in goal, with Patterson continuing between the sticks. I still think we could do with some experienced back up for him – will one arrive this month?

Defenders: Trai Hume, Luke O’Nien, Dan Ballard, Aji Alese

Jenson Seelt is probably the most likely player to threaten this four, with Pembele having played for the reserves last night, but I think we’ll be unchanged here. The four had a tough game last weekend, and will be hoping to get back to form today.

Midfield: Dan Neil, Pierre Ekwah, Alex Pritchard

I think we’ll see Pritchard more centrally today, with either Ekwah or Neil - probably the former – sitting deeper. Pritchard has been in good form in recent weeks, when given the opportunity, while Ekwah will be hoping to atone for last week’s display.

Attack: Abdoullah Ba, Naz Rusyn, Jack Clarke

I think we’ll see Ba come back into the starting XI in the only change, with Jobe sitting out after a poor performance last week. Jobe needs a rest, and I think Ba needs to come back into the team away from home. Clarke will be on the left, while Rusyn will keep his place up front, surely.
