All proceeds from the sale of SAFC 365 will go to support the fantastic work of the lads and lasses at the Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen, and with just a small handful of copies still available you’ll have to be quick…
You can still donate to the appeal if you would like to though, and who knows, there may even be a copy already waiting for you underneath the Christmas tree ready to be unwrapped! In the meantime, here is another advent calendar entry, and best wishes to all readers from everybody at Roker Report – whether you celebrate Christmas or not…
The one and only Gary Bennett…
Today is the 25th, so what better way to mark it by honouring a man that scored 25 times for Sunderland but achieved so much more than that.
Gary Bennett is a modern day SAFC legend. A superb servant with several successes in a red and white shirt, he also helped break down barriers and continues to work tirelessly in the community and for several worthy causes.
In the top ten for most appearances made for the club, Benno has multiple promotion and Wembley appearances under his belt, and was twice named Player of the Season at Roker Park during his decade long spell at the club.
He is now known as an expert Sunderland summariser alongside his good mate Nick Barnes, but following the award of his MBE in late 2022 has made public his prostate cancer diagnosis and has since worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the illness.
Benno is a hero to thousands and his experiences will hopefully better the lives of many of his biggest fans. Enjoy your day everybody, share the love and for the lads seeing this, please take a minute to familiarise yourself with the symptoms.
