If Tuesday’s team selection was Mike Dodds’ job application, he likely caused the powers that be pause for thought. He brilliantly dealt with Leeds’ threat and structured the team perfectly. While Tony Mowbray did a good job, we simply wouldn’t have seen that approach from him. As a result, it makes predicting our team today a bit more difficult than usual - will we approach today’s game in a similar fashion to the Leeds game, or revert back to type?
We think it’s likely to be the latter, but 2pm will be interesting to say the least.
Goalkeeper: Anthony Patterson
Same again in goal of course - Patto did what he needed to do well on Tuesday against Leeds.
Defenders: Trai Hume, Luke O’Nien, Dan Ballard, Niall Huggins
Jenson Seelt came into a back three on Tuesday and did well. I think we’ll see more and more of him as the season progresses, but I suspect he’ll be back on the bench today as we go with our regular back four.
Midfield: Dan Neil, Pierre Ekwah
I reckon we’ll also see Ekwah return to the centre of midfield today, after being left out on Tuesday due to tactical reasons. Neil will be alongside him.
Attack: Patrick Roberts, Alex Pritchard, Jack Clarke
Roberts was on the bench on Tuesday but changed the game when he came on. Ba struggled to get into the game, so Roberts will surely come back in, Pritchard was a man of the match contender on Tuesday and will surely keep his place, while Clarke is a shoo in.
Striker: Jobe Bellingham
Jobe played a bit deeper on Tuesday, but showed his goalscoring instincts again with the winner, and I suspect he’ll be back leading the line today.
