Score Predictions: What will the score be when Sunderland take on Brizzle City?

The performance at home to Leeds Utd was one of our best this season, and arguably for much of last. Today we travel away to Bristol City - surely our Predictions lads are going for 3 W’s in a row?

Predictions League - Latest Result

Sunderland and Mike Dodds really showed us how well a very talented team with decent tactics being excellently applied can do, in the tight but victorious home match on Tuesday night against Leeds.

The first half proved to be a game of attrition early on, and the lads (especially Patto) did well not to concede in the first 5 mins. SAFC went on to have some great spells in the second quarter of the game, and the score being level at 0-0 at half time was probably about right.

A very opportune header from Jobe ended up being the only difference between the sides, which he converted despite being fully clattered by the Leeds ‘keeper in the process.

Alex Pritchard repaid the interim coach for starting him, putting through a reflex header for Jobe to convert around 12 minutes from full time.

So, after playing pretty poorly for a few games and severing ties with Tony Mowbray, we then proceed to despatch two of the top six “in form” sides in a handful of days.

Easy this isn’t it?

Not all of the lads were fully confident of a victory in the midweek match, as can be seen below:

Malc gets the best haul from Tuesday, correctly predicting a tight 1-0 win to us and gathering three points, but as he didn't call Jobe to score, no 4 point full house.

Jack and Martin both get a point for backing a win for the home side, and Bomber gets a consolation point for foreseeing Jobe getting the ball over the chalk for us.

Matty and Will ended the night happy but empty handed in terms of prediction profits.

In terms of impact on the Championship league table, as this is drafted we stand in 6th place (thanks to goal difference over Hull). We are unbeaten in the last three, but are a huge 18 points off the automatics. Ipswich and Leicester are flying, and are showing very little likelihood of slowing down.

In our little Predictions table, Malc catches up with Jack a bit, but the odd point here and there for others means not a lot of difference for the others. Martin is still killing it, and probably cannot believe it given he has been the basement caretaker so much in previous seasons.

League Table

How the points are awarded...

Just a quick reminder on how we allocate points to our match-by-match predictions:

  • Correct score = 3 points
  • Correct outcome (but not correct score) = 1 point
  • Correct first Sunderland goalscorer = 1 point (no goal scorer is a valid call)
  • Possible deductions for being lazy and not submitting on time = 2 point deduction

Malc Dugdale predicts...

Score Prediction: Bristol City 0 Sunderland 2

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Clarke

Bristol City have only won one in the last 5 games, and in the process have let 8 goals in, as they conceded two in the game they won versus Boro towards the end of November.

They may well park the bus after seeing how we have played in the last 2 games. If so, this will be a good test to see if the team post-Mowbray have a way to crack that type of nut too.

Our newfound defensive solidity will hopefully see us keep another clean sheet, and with Dodds still in charge despite the new head coach confirmation being close (and him maybe being in the crowd) I back this side to get at least a couple. Who knows, we may even try playing with a striker.

After not notching since the penalty away to Millwall as part of Mowbray’s last stand, Clarke will be keen to show what he has got to anyone progressing through the interview process who may be watching on from the posh seats by Kyril.

If this is time for Doddsy to start saying his farewells, let’s see another 3 points is my ask. If other results go our way we can end the week in 5th, ahead of the team we beat last weekend, the bog standard Baggies.

Matty Foster predicts...

Score Prediction: Bristol City 1 Sunderland 2

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Clarke

I’d have never imagined we’d be sitting six points better off after those two games!

And now we have this fantastic opportunity to make it three wins from three.

Bristol City haven’t had the greatest of starts under new gaffer Liam Manning, with only a solitary win over Boro in his first five games.

I’m sure Dodds will have done his homework like he had in the previous two.

And I have confidence in him to work his magic once more today, and grind out a close win.

I’m still on the fence whether I’d have him short/full time, and we may have a soon-to-be-announced gaffer in the crowd today, but a win wouldn’t do Dodds, the players or the potential new man any harm.

Bomber Davies predicts...

Score Prediction: Bristol City 1 Sunderland 2

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Roberts

Amazing how a couple of results can completely change your perspective when it comes to these predictions.

After the abject failures of Huddersfield and Plymouth, who would have we’d follow that up with results against Leeds and West Brom?!?

I was at Ashton Gate last season in the brilliant baking sunshine as the legend of Bristanbul was born. I’m with the new lease of life that Doddy has somehow injected into the players. I feel another Bristanbul coming on.

Patrick Roberts is one of those players who seems vastly improved in the last couple of weeks. I fancy him to get one in the West Country.

Martin Wanless predicts...

Score Prediction: Bristol City 0 Sunderland 3

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Clarke

The last couple of games have seen us significantly improve in terms of performances, and results have followed.

Bristol City haven’t been great this season, and I’m envisaging a similar vibe to when we went to Hull under Ricky Sbragia.

Jack Clarke was brilliant on Tuesday, especially in the first half and I’m backing him for first goal again.

Will Jones predicts...

Score Prediction: Bristol City 1 Sunderland 3

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Jobe

This club never fails to surprise me. From seething to jubilation in under a week.

We have not played well against out of form teams lately, those who sit off us and create minimal chances. Maybe this will change with this new found confidence.

I believe we will play very well here and really show our credentials; a tactical master play where we really just control every aspect.

I am excited for this game as Dodds has only managed us against top 6 teams.

Go on the boys.

Jack Howe-Gingell predicts...

Score Prediction: Bristol City 0 Sunderland 4

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Clarke

On drafting this Thursday night I say give the job to Doddsy til the end of the season, though by the time this is published on Saturday, we may well have someone formally announced. They will be well aided by Doddsy if so, of that we can be sure.

The last two games have been remarkable. We have outclassed two good sides, both within the top six at the time of playing them. Whilst there were only subtle tweaks against West Brom, we mixed it up completely against Leeds, switching formations and being more defensively sound than I’ve ever seen us before.

Bristol City are in awful form so we should be able to really get into them based upon our last two encounters. Our newly acquired danger from set pieces only adds to that, and I fancy us to win well.
