Dear Roker Report,
Interesting watching people who have battered the club for not signing players quick enough pretending they’re over the moon with the process! Fickle! Just stay quiet next time instead of jumping the gun!
John Breheny
Ed’s Note [Martin]: Every Sunderland supporter wants to see us succeed on the field every single week, regardless of what’s going on off the pitch John, and I can understand why people got nervous as the pre-season progressed. To me, it was obvious the route we were taking though, and the over-reaction to a new long-term plan not meeting individual people’s expectations in the short term was way over the top in my opinion. That doesn’t mean those people can’t be happy now, though! That said, nothing’s been proven yet. I’m happy with the way we’ve gone about transfers to date, but we still need a right back as well as strength in depth in defence and up front.

Dear Roker Report,
People need to stop slagging our two keepers off. Not sure what they expect. Do you all watch League One football as I do? Go through the squads of every other club and tell me which of them have goalkeepers that are so overwhelmingly better than ours?
Get used to it.
AndoverMackem
Ed’s Note [Martin]: I don’t think we should be comparing ourselves to every other club in League One, AndoverMackem, we always need to think higher. Burge is a decent League One keeper, he did OK last season, but would you be happy with him in the Championship? I wouldn’t. We seem to be trying to get a team that can get us up and then step up with us – why doesn’t that apply to the keeper’s position? If we can improve the squad in any position we should take it – surely that’s a given in football? I don’t know where the criticism of Patterson’s come from, bar one or two Twitter trolls. He’s an excellent prospect in my eyes and I’d like to see him given more opportunities.

Dear Roker Report,
What are the chances that Cissé returns and should we want him back? Any chance of it being a Danny Graham type of situation?
Alex Sayler-Tait
Ed’s Note [Martin]: Not a cat in hell’s chance, Alex, and neither should there be. It was a bit of fun on social media that clickbait writers and websites have turned into something more than it is just to get traffic. Not going to happen!
