Chris’s Player Ratings: Lincoln City 2-0 Sunderland - calamity goal means we’ve got it all to do

We’ve given ourselves a mountain to climb after a poor showing in the first leg. Here’s how Chris rated the Lads...

Lee Burge: 6/10

Some great saves, especially tipping over the bar from Scully in the first half, and wasn’t helped by the defending in front of him for Lincoln’s opening goal. Was sold short for the second but could have still had the sense to see a player coming and at worst knock it out for a throw.

Tom Flanagan: 5/10

Made some crucial blocks in the first half but was poor in possession, especially when selling Burge short for the second.

Luke O’Nien: 6/10

Solid in the first half and was visibly frustrated after we went behind and picked up a booking.

Bailey Wright: 6/10

Should have scored early in the second half but could only hit the bar. Looked marginally sharper than he has done in recent weeks.

Denver Hume: N/A

Only lasted 11 minutes and looked like he was struggling before going off injured. Let’s hope he’s fit for the second leg.

Max Power: 5/10

Mixed bag from Max Power, looked uncomfortable in possession at times but that was partly a result of having no available outlets ahead of him. Was replaced by Leadbitter with around 20 minutes left.

Josh Scowen: 5/10

Worked hard first half and got us up the pitch a number of times when we were in trouble. Didn’t provide anything going forward.

Lynden Gooch: 6/10

Was unlucky with a left foot shot in the first half that went just past the post, but will be disappointed he didn’t see more of the ball.

Aiden McGeady: 5/10

Struggled first half to produce any end product and looked sharper second half and had a couple of good efforts that was either thwarted by the keeper or went just off target.

Jordan Jones: 5/10

As McGeady, he also struggled to produce in the first half but was hampered by lack of options ahead of him. Was unlucky in the second half when his shot was tipped onto the bar.

Charlie Wyke: 4/10

We were restricted by a lack of movement once again and forced to be one dimensional in our play and Wyke struggled tonight.

Subs

Callum McFadzean (11 mins): 5/10

Looked positionally lost at various points and always looked nervous in possession.

Grant Leadbitter (68 mins): 6/10

Had a shot that just went wide with the help of a deflection, but didn’t have that calming influence on us that we were looking for.

Ross Stewart (68 mins): 6/10

Did nothing of real note after coming on and struggled to make an impact.

Rate The Manager: 5/10

We had chances but looked second best for long periods of the game and as much as he tried to change things, it didn’t make enough of an impact.

Man of the Match

Luke O’Nien

Might have been Burge if he hadn’t been involved in the disastrous second goal, but O’Nien seemed to be the only one who wanted to pick the tempo up and take it to Lincoln. Kind of gets it by default.
