Chris’s Player Ratings: Sunderland 3-3 Accrington Stanley - Six goals shared as we take a point

Difficult to know what to make of that one as we share the spoils in a 3-3 draw! Here’s how Chris rated the Lads...

Lee Burge: 5/10

Made a great save around the 20 minute mark and will be disappointed with Accrington’s first and poor communication was non-existent for the equaliser.

Max Power: 7/10

Typical Max Power performance at full-back. Solid without having the influence he’d maybe prefer from the middle of the park, but always puts in a shift - which resulted in joining the counter attack and scoring our third.

Luke O’Nien: 4/10

As a unit we looked nervous all afternoon at the back, and poor defending led to the first goal and the communication issues were evident for his own goal. His form has dipped since being paired with Bailey Wright.

Bailey Wright: 4/10

Still looks a yard off the pace. Was done a couple of times early

Denver Hume: 7/10

Great first half and made McGeady’s life much easier by giving him another option. Faded in the second half with the rest of the side.

Carl Winchester: 6/10

Won possession for our first goal with a high press ticked things over, but lost control of the midfield after the break and was replaced with just over 15 minutes left.

Josh Scowen: 7/10

Great first half, continued to press Accrington and put them under pressure but lacked any sort of tempo after the interval.

Lynden Gooch: 8/10

Blew Accrington away in the opening period and constantly showed what he can do - especially when he’s able to get the ball in early.

Aiden McGeady: 7/10

Constant threat to Accrington, especially in the first half. Looked much more comfortable with Denver Hume in behind him. Looked frustrated in the second half as we tried to get a grip back on the game.

Aiden O’Brien: 5/10

Linked play on a couple of occasions but did nothing of note other than miss a good chance just before the half hour.

Charlie Wyke: 7/10

Two goals in the first 10 minutes and looked busy making himself available to play more direct. Could potentially have had more and was half a yard behind a couple of good balls into the box. Unfortunately went missing in the second half, although wasn’t helped by the Lads not being able to put a foot on it.

Subs

Grant Leadbitter (58 mins): 6/10

Settled us down to an extent but game was a little too frantic for him to put any composure into our game. Could have nicked all three points at the death.

Jack Diamond (73 mins): 7/10

Looked lively and beat the keeper to the ball just after he came on and set up Max Power nicely.

Jordan Jones (73 mins): 6/10

Didn’t have as much impact on the game as he would have liked.

Ross Stewart (94 mins): N/A

Rate The Manager: 5/10

We seem to be suffering from a habit of coming back out for a second half looking like a different side.

Man of the Match

Lynden Gooch

His creativity should have put the game out of reach in the first half.
