Fan Letters: Sunderland fans passionately react to the draw at Hull (McFadzean, cover your eyes)

Time for another edition of our daily mailbag, with the Hull draw - and McFadzean’s performance - at the forefront of the minds of the Roker Report readers. Got something to say? Email us: RokerReport@Yahoo.co.uk

Dear Roker Report,

We played better at Hull than in the last 3 games, however, there is a big but...

And that involves McFadzean. This is a left-back who has no pace, no tackling ability, no positional sense and no passing ability!

How is he still playing?

I am over 60 and I’m pretty confident I could beat him and get a cross in.

Not sure if we have stats but how many goals have we conceded down our left hand side?

Play-Offs heartache again... Oh dear!

Philip Wright

Ed’s Note [Gav]: People might have heard my rant about McFadzean on the Podcast... that was the worst I have ever seen someone play for Sunderland. Utterly horrendous. Wilks had him on toast time after time after time after time after time... it’s not as though he wasn’t trying, either, he’s just not good enough. I really don’t like digging players out too much but there’s no defending McFadzean anymore. He’s just not up to scratch.

Dear Roker Report,

Much better performance that against Hull.

Time to focus on improving...

Play offs won’t be easy but I believe in this team and manager.

Time to stop being so negative.

Let’s pour our passion into supporting the team til all is said and done.

Ha’way

Brett Graham

Ed’s Note [Gav]: Agreed. Plenty of positives for us to take from the Hull game and we absolutely need to finish the league strongly going into the play-offs. I’m a bit disheartened about the way some people are writing us off - we can still do this, even if it isn’t via the preferred route. Let’s continue backing the manager and the squad until all is said and done.

Dear Roker Report,

How are we all going to react if Blackpool win the play offs, especially against us? Embleton’s loan is now being covered up by comments about the fact he needed regular game time! Embleton should have been playing in our first team regularly instead of our rivals.

He has played for England!

We have McFadzean, Scowen, O’Brien and Leadbitter who should all be substitutes every game and not starters. In should have been Diamond, Embleton, Maguire and Neil or Hawkes. All have pace and talent.

LJ seems to have his favourites and unfortunately, this will cost us promotion. Imagine if Ethan Robson scores the winner against us at Wembley? Our last throw of the dice should be to bring in Maguire and Josh Hawkes immediately as he should be fit, fresh and ready to score goals.

Harish Shah

Ed’s Note [Gav]: I’d agree that the persistent use of McFadzean in recent games is baffling, and Maguire has been a glaring omission, but otherwise I think Johnson has used his squad well. Hawkes has had a canny season for the 23s but I’ve never seen him actually play. Ethan Robson.... not sure of your point there marra! He’s not our player any more, time to move on.
