It’s Game Week 5, and our panel’s weekly predictions are in ahead of the Sunderland Ladies game away at Bristol City’s High Performance Centre. Rich is on a bit of roll, calling the last two draws... so who will be right this week...

Katie Hume predicts... Sunderland to win a tough match

Bristol is probably the toughest opponents we’ve faced so far, although they’ve had a big turn around of players they still have a talented team.

Sunderland will be looking to turn around from a poor game vs Lewes so I think we’ll win 2-1.

Graeme Field Predicts... a narrow win for the Lady Black Cats

After drawing their last two games 1-1, away to Crystal Palace and at home to Lewes, the lasses will be looking to bring back three points from their long trip to Bristol City Women.

There have been no reports from the club regarding any new injury concerns from last week’s squad. Although it was sad to learn that Emily Hutchinson has suffered a tear of her ACL in the same knee which kept her out of the game for so long last season. I again wish her the best of luck in getting back to full fitness.

A more or less fully fit squad will provide manager Mel Reay with the kind of selection dilemma that a manager loves to have. The skipper Ramshaw looked rather isolated at times in their most recent game at home to Lewes. This may mean that Iris Achterhof, Emily Scarr or Eve Blakey may come into the thinking of the manager to provide Keira assistance further up the pitch.

However, I think the manager will go with the same side as last week. This will enable the lasses to be compact in midfield. The most advanced of those midfielders Maria Farrugia getting forward to support Keira. Add this to the threat from the wings of Jessica Brown and the tenacious Abbey Joice and this may be the way the manager goes. After all the lasses are unbeaten so far this season and Bristol will be looking to avenge their 2-0 defeat last week to another north east side Durham Women. Haway the lasses.

Prediction - Bristol City Women 0-1 Sunderland Ladies.

Ant Waterson predicts... an away win!

Sunderland need to bounce back after a disappointing performance last week. Bristol City will be a tough nut to crack but I think we can do it.

On the playing side, I would bring in Iris Achterhof for Maria Farrugia. I feel Maria may need a rest and Iris is a more out and out striker that we need.

I think we will win 2 1.

Rich Speight predicts... yet another score draw

I keep predicting draws and we keep getting them, and in this league I think it’s the safest bet. I do expect Sunderland to show a reaction to last week’s underwhelming performance, and I’m absolutely sure that Mel will have been analysing the game in detail along with Bristol’s loss to Durham Wildcats, and from what I saw of both games last weekend there will be a contrast in styles on show tomorrow.

Bristol have some dangerous players in the final third, and were unlucky in many respects not to get at least a point from Durham. We’ll have been working on creating more chances and testing the keeper, I think Achterhof will get her first for the club and Farrugia will take one of the chances that comes her way, and these two factors combined is why I think it will be 2-2.
