News: Argentine press give update on Sunderland’s pursuit of Mateo Bajamich

An Argentinian press report has given an update on Sunderland’s (and Houston’s) pursuit of 21 year old Institutio forward Mateo Bajamich.

Sunderland’s move for Instituto forward Mateo Bajamich may not be over just yet according to reports in Argentina.

MLS side Houston Dynamo’s had made an offer for the 21-year-old and were thought to be favourites for his signature but have been unable to reach terms with the Argentine club and, according to Mundo D, although Dynamo’s move is not dead, there has been no progress on the fee.

The report goes on to claim that a move to Sunderland has not been ruled out, even if the initial bid of £500,000 has not been accepted. In fact, Mundo D claim that Instituto made a counter-offer of £1.3m for 80% of his registration to Sunderland.

Despite the report going on to claim they did not receive a response to that counter-offer, we understand the club quickly said no thanks to that particular offer but retain their interest in Bajamich and are considering a revised offer.

In the meantime, the player continues to train with his club while waiting for his future to be resolved.
