Fan Letters: “Look at reality, Sunderland fans - every third tier game we play is a failure”

RR reader Dave Robson can’t view our existence in League One as anything other than an indictment of abject failure, he urges other fans to stop being romantic and accept this reality. Got something to say? RokerReport@Yahoo.co.uk!

Dear Roker Report,

I can’t believe how naive some of our supporters are.

It’s the romantic notion of fighting our way back the right way or God knows what. It’s got to be, let’s look at the facts here. None of you, who think these two should have anything still to do with the club, have any idea about the way they set about getting a new manager in after JR was finally released of his duties.

These people would only go for a manager who didn’t have his own staff as it was too expensive for them. You have non-league teams who will bring in more than a manager and his first team coach! These two are so far out of their depth, if you can’t see it you’re totally blind to it or you have no perception of how a club of our size should be operating.

How many times do you have to be lied to? How many times do you have to see our youngsters humiliated by results? How many times do we have to fail? Every single game we play in the 3rd tier is a failure, start looking at reality for a change.

There’s no romance in being a poor 3rd tier team with big crowds, it’s failure - simple as that. It will always be failure until we have real owners, real money and a real drive for us to improve. Make no mistake about this, if we do go up somehow, we will be straight back down or very close to it. For God’s sake wake up to what we have become and stop looking into the past! We are an embarrassment and will remain so while these three men have anything to do with us.

Talk is cheap; actions speak louder than words. It’s always been the same. We won’t be going anywhere with the current regime and if you can’t see that you’re deluded. It would have been great if they could have done something positive. They haven’t. The sooner they’re gone the better. The only thing we can hope is that there are big financial rewards to be had from our club if the right people take over

Let’s hope someone with real money can see that.

Dave Robson

Ed’s Note [Alex]: You aren’t the first person to highlight the club’s infrastructure as the biggest failing of Donald’s regime, though you have written one of the least compromising fan letters about it!

Not that that’s a bad thing at all, don’t get me wrong. If we have the kind of threadbare backroom and administration staff you’d expect from a mid-table National League side, then ideally as fans we want as many of us talking about the problem as possible. Quite simply, this is a huge concern and much like yourself I would be extremely worried about our hopes of competing in the Championship if we are so under-resourced and cash-strapped.

However they manage to do it, the ownership need to address these rather damning issues. We can do our very best to influence that by foregrounding the problem wherever possible - like we’re doing right now!

Dear Roker Report,

I would like to send Phil Parkinson an email. I was wondering what is the best way to contact him?

Jackie

Ed’s Note [Alex]: I reckon you’re best off going through the club’s official channels. Contact supporter liaison via e-mail or just have a look at the website for another relevant byline. That’s the most advice I can offer I’m afraid!
