Fan Letters: The anger at Phil Parkinson from Sunderland fans continues

New, comments

In today’s fan letters, more fume about Phil Parkinson from fans who’ve been following the Lads for decades, and a question from Max about Chris Maguire’s form. What do you think? RokerReport@yahoo.co.uk!

Dear Roker Report,

We have a manager who last managed Bolton Wanderers.

We have a first team coach who came from Bolton Wanderers.

We have a goalkeeper who came from... you’ve guessed already... Bolton Wanderers.

Where did Bolton Wanderers end up after their combined efforts?

I’m 73 years old and saw my first game at 4 years of age (can’t remember it) but have never seen so many games I wish I COULD forget. Even Paolo would be more welcome, at least he had some grit.

Allen Roberts

Dear Roker Report,

Yes of course, I agree - get rid of him. It has been staring him in the face... what is wrong? We needed strikers, not a load of midfielders. Why did he buy Danny Graham? He was useless when he was here first time around.

Parkinson just hasn’t a clue.

Promotion back to the Championship? Dream on.

William Warren

Dear Roker Report,

Please, please, please get rid of Parkinson. He’s useless and has no idea.

I’ve supported Sunderland all my life. I’m nearly 60 now, and as sad as it is, I don’t think I will ever see my club in the Premier League again.

I might not even see them in the Championship.

How has a club like ours got in this state?

Super Kev might just give all of us a lift.

Stephen Purcell

Ed’s Note [Rich]: Hi Stephen, William and Allen, cheers for your letters. We’re all feeling really similar aren’t we; it’s difficult to see how we get out of this league unless there’s radical change from top-to-bottom at the club. Parky is proving to be the damp-squib of a manager that we feared he would be when he took over last year, and I can’t help but feel that he’s a reflection of drop in standards and expectations across the board. Recruiting an aging Danny Graham when we were desperate for a pacey, exciting striker is the epitome of what’s gone wrong at the club.

Personally, I doubt if putting SKP in the hot seat is the answer to our problems - club legends and perennial assistant managers don’t have the best track records when they graduate to the top job - but then again it can’t get much worse than it is now.

Dear Roker Report,

Well, I’ve done it - I’ve cut up my season ticket after 25 years.

It's like a huge weight off my shoulders.

This is by far the worst manager we’ve had at SAFC in my 47 years, and I’m including McMenemy in that as well, mind. I’ve never seen such absolute dross week after week, from a manager with no clue how to win games comfortably in this league - and believe me, we have the players to attack teams and put them to the sword.

It’s the same tactics and same players wedged into wrong positions, same substitutions at the same time, game after game - absolute rubbish.

I won’t be returning until Parkinson is as far away from my club as possible, and it needs to be soon before it’s too late.

Paul King

Ed’s Note [Rich]: Alright there, Paul. It’s bloody awful watching Sunderland at the minute, I just hope the club can issue you with a replacement card so that when fans are allowed back and we’ve got a new manager you can get back to the SOL and cheer the lads on.

Dear Roker Report,

Just wanted to know what everyone is making of Maguire this season. Personally, I think he’s been pretty awful for 85% of the games he’s played, and shown little to no interest so far. Maybe it’s because he’d rather be out wide like last year, when he was very good, or maybe - like the fans - he’s given up on Parkinson.

I feel like I see similar to what happened to McGeady. In our first League One season, Geads was our best player along with Jon McLaughlin. Come year 2 he looked sluggish at the start of the year. Ross went, and McGeady’s performances didn’t really change, then he started to be on the bench and got exiled from the squad a month or so later.

Last year Maguire was our best player, but the start of this year looks off the pace. Now recently he’s found himself on the bench a few times.

Personally, I think it seems all too similar to McGeady, and I don’t think Parky will exile Maguire as such, but just seems very similar.

Max

Ed’s Note [Rich]: Cheers for writing in, Max. I don’t quite know what’s up with Maguire right now. He’s been playing as a number ten in a system that doesn’t encourage creativity through the middle - it’s all about those crosses into the box for Parky. Plus he’s a year older, and he’s a League 1 player; at this level inconsistency is pretty much par for the course.
