Sunderland defender Arbenit Xhemajli is reported to have picked up a knee injury whilst away on international duty with Kosovo.
The left-sided defender, who signed for the club this summer after leaving Swiss top flight side Neuchatel Xamax, was due to play for the Kosovan U21s side tonight, but did not make the squad.
Twitter user @Kosovan_Footy informed Roker Report last night that the defender was due to play against Austria U21s at the Pristina City Stadium before jetting off to join up with the Kosovan senior side for next week’s Nations League double header against Slovenia and then away to Greece.
Reports coming out of the Kosovo u21 camp is that Arbenit Xhemajli has suffered a knee injury and will not be part of the squad tonight vs Austria u21. He will also not join the A team for their 2 upcoming fixtures as was expected.

It’s not yet known how serious the injury is, but it’s enough to keep him out of all three games. Bad news then for Sunderland, who were hoping to have the big left-footer available to make his League One bow against Swindon Town a week on Saturday.
With Tom Flanagan suspended and Morgan Feeney out long-term, it could force the club back into the transfer market before the window closes next week.
