Fan Letters: “Give the Sunderland manager some credit!”

New, comments

Roker Report reader Mel ponders why Sunderland didn’t sign Marcus Maddison, whilst Paul asks why Phil Parkinson isn’t getting more credit. Let us know what you think - RokerReport@Yahoo.co.uk!

Dear Roker Report,

What is really going on?! I can understand Parkinson’s philosophy of wanting the right players and balance in the squad, but why not Maddison?!

A through and through Sunderland man, just like Grant Leadbitter, who would give their all to this fantastic club because it’s in their blood. Why do managers not understand that they would run through fire for their beliefs?!

Sorry but he has lost the best signing of the season and don’t be surprised if he puts us to the sword. No matter how much he loves the club it is what he is getting paid for, and if it was a choice between us and Charlton, being a professional he will put them above us.

Hope it does not come to that Marcus, but it’s our loss. Have a good season and hope you stay injury free. Really would have done well for us in the Championship as well wearing his heart on his sleeve.

Ed’s Note [Chris]: We all love local lads to pull on the shirt but in this case I can’t say I’m that disappointed that we didn’t sign Marcus Maddison. I think we’ve already got decent options in terms of attacking midfielders and with the salary cap in play we need to prioritise positions where we are weak.

As for the suggestion it’s only local lads who get it, I’ll point out Kevin Ball was born on the south coast and not many have “got it” like he has, and I’d suggest it’s the character of the player rather than where they were born that’s important.

Dear Roker Report,

Why is nobody talking up the job Parky is doing? We’re on course for promotion!

Lots of people have crawled back under their rocks.

Give him some credit!

Paul Kirkhall

Ed’s Note [Chris]: Whilst I think the jury is still out on Phil Parkinson, I do think he deserves credit for our unbeaten start to the season. We haven’t looked great going forward but I haven’t seen us this organised at the back for a long time. If we can start creating more chances and sticking them away, we could run away with it this season.
