A pair of rubbish results, and concern the tide has turned. Is the slippery slope approaching? A bet on the lads is still needed...where do we go from here?
Very little success was experienced in the betting last weekend - only Danny has claimed a win, hence all others are a tenner down, and in generally feeling a bit down to be honest, given the way the last 2 games have gone.
Unlike the performances on the pitch, the bets have been lacking in positive outcomes for some time. The down turn in form for the 1st team across the last week has created some understandable concern and angst in the SAFC supporters communities. Many already feel Parkinson is under pressure.
Most agree that a bounce back is needed to restore confidence and winning ways, though a number of fans felt that the 5-6 game run conceding only one goal was as much down to luck than tactics or skill.
Betting is mainly down to luck, so like our red and white reps out on the paddock, lets brush down the betting slips and little pencils, and go again this weekend with a hope for more success.
The Rolling Table Week #7: Season 2020-2021
Danny won £19 for predicting our loss to Pompey, which puts him three quid off top of the table. Well done Danny, hope you’re happy with that! All other punters including our readers rep had no joy.
The bets on SAFC this week could well vary... will our Riches contributors follow Danny’s lead and forecast another poor away result, or even a loss? Will the blind hope we all possess drive us to forecast 3 points coming back up north?
Here is the table prior to the visit to the Gills.... only 2 members with a net profit from the starting allocation of £200. Maybe gambling doesn't pay eh!
PS - well done to Gary in missing the bet cut off this week, as a result he loses £20 - his tenner stake, and a tenner yellow card for poor commitment to the Riches cause.
Good luck winning that back Gary, and make sure you set your alarm for next week's betting cut off, as 2 yellows in a week hasn’t been tested as yet...how much would a red cost?
Banker’s Bonus...
OK, I made the bankers' bonus based on zero red cards last weekend, and Luke then got one resulting in a penalty that killed off an already poor situation.
It was my fault, it won’t happen again, nor will a bonus bet this week.
For the Gillingham game.....many pundits and other less formal commentators like us at RR are bursting to see some of the youngsters given a pop.
If Parky plays any of the following for more than 20 mins in the game Vs Gillingham, an extra tenner is available for a bet next week (this includes if they come off the bench rather than start - though why all the players from Tuesday would not be rotated is beyond the wit of many). Youth players valid for the bet - Diamond, Dunne, Embleton, Hackett, Kimpioka, Neil, Taylor, Younger.
This Week’s Bets:
Matty Crichton says...
Sunderland to win: I think Parky’s team simply must beat Gillingham to get our season back on track, especially since the Gills have lost their last four games without scoring! £5 returns £8.50.
EFL fivefold: My attempt to predict the football this week brings me these games, Posh to beat Shrewsbury, Port Vale to beat Southend, Salford to beat Oldham, Sheff Wed to beat Wycombe and Stoke to beat Rotherham. £5 returns £95.97.
Gary Morris says (rather late hence the yellow)...
SAFC to win, Gillingham not to score. A reserved bet this week lads, to get one up this week after a few weeks of misses. Fiver pays back £13.75.
But, on my other bet I’m going big as I think Lincoln at 2/1 is like printing money along with some assumed banker bets. Lets see how it goes but a fiver pays £146.56 for a six fold of Ipswich, Lincoln, Peterborough, Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool all winning.
Phil Butler says...
Sunderland to win 1-0. £5 returns £30.
I’m not very confident about Sunderland’s chances going into this game, but if recent form is to go by Gillingham are no great shakes either so I’m backing Phil Parkinson’s men to scrape a narrow victory.
Ipswich, Lazio and Real Sociedad all to win. £5 Treble returns £63.
Ipswich are in good form and face a Crewe side that provided little threat against Sunderland a couple of games ago.
On the continent, Lazio are a big price to beat a Torino side that hasn’t won all season, and David Silva’s Real Sociedad are also a good price away at Celta Vigo.
Paul (PJ) Fletcher says...
Sunderland to win 2-0 and Gooch to score any time. Gillingham haven’t found the back of the net in their last four league games. If ever there was a chance for our defence to get back to keeping clean sheets, this is it. Gooch is due a goal and he won’t mind if it’s the first or second and neither will I. £5 returns £80
BTTS Fourfold - I’ve been nowhere near when picking teams to win so I’ve decided to go back to praying for goals. BTTS in Millwall vs Huddersfield, Rochdale vs Bristol Rovers, Crawley vs Cambridge and Dover vs Altrincham. £5 returns £54.40
Malc Dugdale says...
SAFC to win to nil - I think Parky will be drilling the lads to keep the back line tight after a couple of sloppy goals made a big difference.
SAFC to win to nil is 7/4 on Skybet, meaning a £13.75 return for a fiver stake.A 5 fold acca for my 2nd bet - a fiver says all of the following will win - Man City, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Sheff Weds and Hull. Return is £53.55 if this comes in. Hope it does.
Danny Roberts says...
Sunderland to lose: The end is near for Parkinson and we’ve looked poor in our last two outings. So I think Gillingham might do a job on us. £5 returns £27.50.
EFL Triple: Bournemouth to continue their good start by beating Derby, Sheffield Wednesday to get a much needed three points against Wycombe and Peterborough to beat Shrewsbury. £5 returns £27.72.
Riches Readers...
This week’s readers’ bets come from Peter Taylor (@PAJTaylorWriter).
He’s gone for the following picks:
Sunderland to draw 1-1. £5 returns £32.50.
Burnley to score under 0.5 goals against Chelsea. £5 returns £11.87.
Many thanks for your contribution Peter and let’s see if you can be the first of our readers to get a win on the board.
