Roker Riches (Wk 6): What bets have you got on for this weekend’s SAFC match?

Sunderland’s winning form this week coincided with some winning form of our own in the RR betting league. Another tough game for Sunlun today though... Can the positive trend carry on?

Roker Riches 20/21

A great return to winning ways versus both Swindon and Crewe after the international pause, and two more clean sheets for the Cats’ defence. A smattering of profits around the RR betting shop too. Can we outplay “play-up Pompey”, and continue to build the momentum?

Phil did the best in winnings last week, accompanied by minor betting income (more or less stakes back) for Danny and Matty. No wins for all the others including our readers rep Andy. The table has some changes this week, and changes will continue we are sure.

Thanks his £27.50 winning prediction of the 2-0 win at Swindon, Phil hits the top of the table. Due to more or less getting his money back, Danny sneaks into second spot by a whole 76p. Matty won a similar amount with the same bet, so moves off the foot of the table to be replaced by the Roker Readers, and PJ (who is still yet to register anything other than a loss... ahem).

The Sunderland bet for our lads this week could be one of the hardest ones to call for some time. While we all saw Swindon and Crewe as potential banana skins yet winnable, this week's visitors are no strangers to our wonderful stadium, nor to many of the players in the squad.

The bookies have shortened the odds on a Sunderland promotion of late given the lads now have the title of the meanest defence in all 4 leagues, as well as not conceding any league goals from open play. This will be a stern test though, and likely a fiery one. We won at home by 5-0 this time last year though, in one of Phil’s first outings... just saying.

Hopefully the controlled and solid base will continue, and we can take another maximum set of points to help us stay in touch with the table toppers Hull, and the (recently thumped) Ipswich who presently own the precious top 2 spots.

Banker’s Bonus...

While Forest did nick a win last time out, it was only by one goal so the bankers' bonus isn’t awarded this week.

This weekend we look to the ref for an extra bet. If the SAFC vs Pompey game lasts to the final whistle with all 22 players still wandering round the paddock, then we will give all players a free tenner “fair play” bet next weekend.

Let's hope the fixture is feisty, but free of red mist and red cards.

This Week’s Bets:

Matty Crichton says...

Both teams not to score in Sunderland vs Portsmouth: I think this game will incredibly tight as both teams won’t want to lose and I can see a 0-0 or 1-0 coming, it seems a safe bet. £5 returns 9.75.

British Fivefold: Manuel Lanzini’s last minute screamer lost me £90 last week... (No I am not over it) Lets try again with an open mind: Doncaster to beat Crewe, Oxford to beat Swindon, Tranmere to beat Southend, Norwich to beat Wycombe and Dundee to beat Morton. £5 returns £63.77.

Gary Morris says...

Sunderland win, both teams to score bundled with a Maguire goal...odds of 7/1 gets a return of £40 for a fiver bet.

Sunday prem treble - Everton, Wolves and Arsenal all to win, a fiver brings in £43.84.

Phil Butler says...

Sunderland to win and Chris Maguire to score first. £5 returns £50.

The odds for Sunderland to keep a clean sheet are getting shorter by the week, so I’m going for a different tactic this week. I fancy another one/two nil win and Chris Maguire will be looking to get one over on his old club.

Hull City, Charlton and Oxford Utd all to win. £5 treble returns £64.37.

Three league one rivals at better than evens. It’s not a great week for value so I’m hoping this league one treble will bring home the dough.

Paul (PJ) Fletcher says...

Lynden Gooch to score first. Portsmouth have only conceded six goals in seven league games so it might take a bit of Gooch magic to break the deadlock. £5 returns £40

European Sixfold. My English bets have been getting me nowhere so I’m going continental. Seville, Athletico Madrid, Atalanta, Juventus, Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim all to win this weekend. £5 returns £89.21

Malc Dugdale says...

Dipped out again last week. Need to start pulling some cash in soon.

Sunderland to win to nil - given the clean sheet run, I’m bound to put a curse on us but lets see. Fiver pays £17.50

Go big or go home, lets hope the lads go big at home versus Pompey, this match could be another statement win, or our first major wobble.

4 fold acca for my 2nd bet - BTTS and wins for Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Sheff Weds. If this comes in I am flying and comfy for some time. £5 bet returns £670.30!

Danny Roberts says...

Portsmouth to win: I feel it’s likely Pompey will end our unbeaten run this weekend. £5 returns £19.00.

Fivefold: Liverpool to breeze past Sheffield United, Norwich to destroy Wycombe, Sheffield Wednesday to get 3 points against Luton, Doncaster to beat Crewe and Cambridge to ease past Bolton. £5 returns £71.75.

Riches Readers...

Thanks to DeanoJD for his interest in our readers' bets this week. He felt that the Pompey game should go our way with another clean sheet.

“Sunderland to win, score prediction 2-0”

This gathers odds of 17/2 on PaddyPower, meaning a return of £95 for a tenner bet.

Best of luck DeanoJD, and to all our punters, and most of all to the team on Saturday.
