United offer long-term deal to Pye

Manchester United are desperate to land Sunderland youngster Logan Pye, so much so that they are offering the left-back a long-term deal in a bid to beat off competition from Arsenal for the player’s signature.

The Sun claim the Red Devils have offered Pye a five-year deal which will keep him at Old Trafford until he is 21.

The 16-year-old is a regular in Sunderland’s under-18 team and made his England under-16 debut at the age of 14, with his talent also making him subject of interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Sunderland gave Manchester United permission to talk to Pye earlier in the week and it appears that they have won the race to sign the precocious talent.

Man Utd to decide on potential Sunderland loan

Manchester United are to decide on whether to send young midfielder James Garner out on loan during this transfer window.

Sunderland are said to be interested should they decide that the 18-year-old needs regular first-team football.

Garner was withdrawn at half-time for United’s under-23 game against Liverpool on Thursday in preparation for the first-team’s FA Cup tie against the player’s hometown club Tranmere Rovers later on today.

Alvarez undergoes medical

Former Sunderland player Ricky Alvarez has undergone a medical ahead of a move to Argentine club Velez Sarsfield.

The winger is a free agent after leaving Liga MX side Atlas and is expected to sign an 18-month deal to return to the team that game him his senior debut back in 2008.

Alvarez had a successful first season with Atlas but was allowed to leave after an injury plagued second season.
