Jon McLaughlin: 7/10
Although MK Dons were decent opposition today, McLaughlin really didn’t have a massive amount to do. Distributed reasonably well and made a few decent saves.
Alim Ozturk: 5/10
Two absolute sitters missed by Ozturk. A decent performance defensively, but he had to finish one of those opportunities at the very least.
Jordan Willis: 7/10
Solid in defence and did his best to get forward when possible - that was difficult against MK Dons’ high press.
Joel Lynch: 6/10
Fairly solid throughout - especially in the air. That being said, he was a little wasteful with the ball at times.
Denver Hume: 7/10
Some fantastic forward runs, and constantly got his side on the front foot. His delivery was somewhat erratic today, but his positivity was brilliant. Defensively good, too.
Max Power: 7/10
Struggled a little bit with the high MK Dons’ press in the first half, but was tenacious out of possession. Second half he found more room to distribute and was just as effective out of possession. Showing a real grit in the middle of the park that’s great to see.
George Dobson: 8/10
Much like Power, Dobson found the first half difficult going, but harried well out of possession. Also improved in the second half and helped Sunderland up their passing tempo.
Luke O’Nien: 6/10
Thought Luke struggled a bit today, and lacked his usual sprightliness. Still a decent performance, but missed a great opportunity at the back post.
Chris Maguire: 7/10
Unlucky not to score with another cracking free kick; moments of magic were coupled with a few careless ones. Overall did well for the side - top shithousery in the dying moments when it was needed.
Lynden Gooch: 9/10
What. A. Goal. Unbelievable strike from Gooch, who continues to be a shining star on the pitch. Worked hard all afternoon and supplied some decent deliveries into the area. Thriving in this role as a fluid forward.
Charlie Wyke: 6/10
Struggled today against a physical MK defence. Grafted all afternoon and had a few nice touches, but missed a decent opportunity and struggled aerially.
(SUB) : Kyle Lafferty: 7/10
Put one just over the bar from the edge of the area seconds after coming on. Seemed to really enjoy the battle with the MK defence, and was full of running when Sunderland needed it and urged his teammates to continue the high press in the final few minutes.
Man of the Match
Lynden Gooch.
