Adebayo Akinfenwa
Akinfenwa is a man whose reputation precedes him. Known simply as ‘The Beast’, he’s still banging in the goals for Wycombe despite nearing the end of his career.
It was his 37th birthday only a few months ago and still he sits comfortably atop of the Chairboys’ scoring charts.
Powerful would be an understatement, but to comment solely on his ability to bully centre-halves would be unfair to a man who is also pretty tidy on the floor, and can bring others, such as Nick Freeman or Alex Samuel, into the fore.
With almost 200 league goals in his career, there can be no doubting that Akinfenwa is still the key man for Wanderers and the battle between him and Alim Ozturk will be a real clash to watch.
Darius Charles
The 32-year-old has had a remarkable season and, alongside Wycombe themselves, is defying all expectations as they both sit top of League One.
Released at the end of last term before being re-signed on a short-term deal by Gareth Ainsworth in the summer, Charles was seen as a last-resort type of signing, having only played five games for the club the season prior.
Charles was also advised to retire from football completely on medical grounds last term following continuous injury problems and, for a while at least, that decision looked to be out of his hands.
The former Ebbsfleet defender has arthritis in his hip and was sat in a surgeon’s office faced with a stark choice - either quit football for good or face the prospect of a first hip replacement before the age of 40. Yet here he is, on course for promotion to the second tier and Wycombe’s player of the season so far.
Although he’s not always able to take part in training full-time, he’s still Wycombe’s most important player and, as described by BBC Three Countries commentator Phil Catchpole, Charles is Ainsworth’s “League One Ledley King”.
Joe Jacobson
A defender by trade, Wycombe’s long-serving left back has more of a reputation for his attacking ability and expert set-pieces.
Jacobsen hit the headlines earlier this season by scoring a screamer of a free-kick before scoring two goals from corners in a win over Lincoln City, and sits on seven goals already.
Not only is he a goal threat but he’s adept at whipping in dangerous balls from out wide, so we’ll definitely have to be aware of his ability to both assist and ripple the net himself at the Stadium of Light this weekend.
