PLAYER RATINGS: Sheff Utd 0-1 Sunderland - Here’s how the Lads rated after another cup win!

Sunderland took another Premier League scalp tonight in the League Cup, running out 1-0 winners over Sheffield United. Here’s how it went, and how our man at the match rated the Lads in red and white.

Lee Burge: 8/10

An excellent performance from the deputy goalkeeper will surely put him in the thoughts of Jack Ross for Saturday’s game. Vocal, commanding, brave and tremendous distribution.

Laurens De Bock: 7/10

Did what he needed to do with minimal fuss. One fabulous forty yard cross field ball aside, he looked at ease against top tier opposition.

Joel Lynch: 8/10

Huge. Mousset struggled against him all evening. An excellent debut.

Tom Flanagan: 6/10

Almost gifted Robinson the opening goal. Still lacks concentration and was lucky he had Lynch beside him at times. Kept them out though, probably most importantly.

Conor McLaughlin: 6/10

Poor going forward, but handled Sheffield United’s tricky forwards very well.

Max Power: 7/10

Wonderful opening goal and kept up the pressure on the Blades midfield all evening.

Dylan McGeouch: 7/10

Tidy, efficient and kept us ticking over in midfield.

Elliot Embleton: 6/10

Tidy and positive in possession. Can’t help but think he deserves more game time as he’s got that little bit about him that seems to always look to unlock defences.

Luke O’Nien: 7/10

Ran and ran and ran. Endless amounts of energy meant Sunderland’s press on United’s back three never faltered.

Chris Maguire: 7/10

Typical performance from Maguire. Always wanted the ball and looked to get down the throat of the Blades.

Charlie Wyke: 7/10

Strong in the air and always a good outlet.

(SUB) Denver Hume: 6/10

Some good, some bad. But ultimately performed his duties well in an unfamiliar position.

(SUB) George Dobson: N/A

Wasn’t on long.

Man of the Match

Joel Lynch.
