We were joined on the latest installment of the Roker Rapport podcast by Sunderland owner Stewart Donald earlier today - with full details of how to listen down below.
During the course of the interview, Donald gave an update of what Sunderland fans can expect in the remaining days before the transfer deadline closes for League One clubs on the 2nd of September.
We asked Donald whether there would be money available for Jack Ross to strengthen his squad, and the chairman said we have been in that position all summer:
Yep and we have been in that position all the way through.
We’re talking about strengthening the team with two or three more signings before the window shuts.
A couple of players on the desk are probably going to cost us half a million pounds if we decide they are the ones to go for.
When asked how close we may be to signing a player, Donald said that we were quite close on one and could sign up to three, with the strengthening the defensive end of the pitch a priority:
If you ask Jack [Ross], he is a bit more cautious than me, he would say ‘Oh, not quite yet’ but me being excitable I’ll say yes.
We’re not far away on one and that one may extend to three but it might end up being two.
If you asked me now, I would hope we will sign a couple of players next week but I would certainly expect there to be one.
They’re defensive players.
