Jon McLaughlin - 7/10

Uninvolved for the most part but was assured in claiming the majority of crosses into his box.

Luke O’Nien - 7/10

Had a quiet game but was particularly crucial in clearing our lines in the second half.

Alim Ozturk - 7/10

Struggled early, but improved as the game wore on. Did the simple stuff effectively.

Jordan Willis - 7/10

Badly at fault for the Portsmouth goal, but made up for it with an outstanding header and a much improved second half.

Conor McLaughlin - 6/10

Surprisingly composed out of position.

Max Power - 7/10

Solid in the middle of the park - much improved once more. He was everywhere.

Grant Leadbitter - 6/10

Struggled defensively, but had a positive impact with his set pieces.

Lynden Gooch - 8/10

Lively and as effective as any Sunderland player after half-time. Drove at the Pompey defence and caused all sorts of problems.

Aiden McGeady - 7/10

Outstanding to lay on Maguire’s goal.

Chris Maguire - 8/10

The central hub for a majority of Sunderland’s play. Great positioning for his goal also.

Marc McNulty - 7/10

Linked play well before suffering an injury.

(SUB) Charlie Wyke - 8/10

Played with a real aggression and intensity after his introduction - a real battering ram.

(SUB) Will Grigg - N/A

Barely involved after his late introduction.

(SUB) Denver Hume: N/A

Came on late to kill time

Man of the Match: Chris Maguire
