The initial murmurings a number of weeks ago around interest from Sunderland in then-Walsall midfielder George Dobson started with a post on Saddlers fan forum ‘All About Walsall’.
One poster - named JeefBoner - declared intimate details of the fees that Sunderland had offered. The thread then led to Sunderland news outlets following up on the news, which was quickly confirmed as true as it was revealed that the 21-year old was Jack Ross’s number one midfield target this summer.
Whilst a lot of time has since passed since those initial postings, ‘JeefBoner’ has since reemerged today on ‘All About Walsall’ to answer a question put to him about the fee that we’ve paid to sign Dobson - which was reported as ‘undisclosed’ by the two clubs.
In the post - which can be read here - JeefBoner alleges that Sunderland have paid a relatively meagre sum of money to secure the former Arsenal and West Ham man. Apparently, £200k was all it took to snatch away their captain - £100k up front, and £100k in add ons.
Of course, we can make our own minds up on whether or not to believe JeefBoner’s claims but, as the person who not only broke the news initially but kept his fellow Walsall fans in the loop about how things were progressing, we have no reason to doubt them.
