Roker Roundup: Sunderland linked with move for released Man Utd man again - but face competition

News outlets in Scotland have linked Sunderland with a free transfer move for recently released Manchester United striker James Wilson, who we previously showed an interest in back in January.

Interest in Wilson?

Aberdeen want to re-sign James Wilson after the Manchester United forward spent last season on-loan at Pittordrie.

The forward is out of contract in a few days and was linked with a loan move to Sunderland last summer before he headed for the Scottish Premiership. He has now been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light once again.

According to the Daily Record, Aberdeen have made Wilson an offer but face competition from Sunderland and Preston North End, as well as a few clubs in the MLS.

Shankland saga set to rumble on

Dundee United made an offer to Ayr United’s prolific Lawrence Shankland earlier in the week.

The striker is set to be out of contract at the end of the month and the Scottish Championship side newcomers are hoping he will spearhead their promotion campaign after they missed out in the play-offs last season.

However reports suggest that both Sunderland and Hull City are still in talks with the forward and Dundee United boss Robbie Nielson is unsure if/or when the striker will sign with his club:

Shankland is one that came up and we would have liked to have kept it under wraps but it came out.

We decided to comment on it and be honest about it.

We have offered a deal and it could get done tomorrow or it could happen on August 31.

Until a player is here with a scarf over his head…Mind you even at that point you can’t be sure!

No, until the contract is signed you just have to wait and see.

Sinclair to the Eredivisie

Oxford United manager Karl Robinson mentioned recently that he thinks his club lost out on the race to re-sign former Sunderland loanee Jerome Sinclair.

Robinson started that he believed Sinclair was set to join a Dutch club and that appears to be the case with reports in the Netherlands suggesting that the forward will join VVV-Venlo.

De Limburger claim the 22-year-old will sign for the Eredivisie side on-loan for the entire 2019-20 season.
