Dundee United’s Sporting Director Tony Asghar has confirmed that his club have made a contract offer to highly sought after striker Lawrence Shankland amidst interest from Sunderland.
Asghar alluded to the fact that the 23-year old has received interest from elsewhere and is ‘in-demand’, saying:
We are in talks with Lawrence Shankland’s representatives and we have made an offer to come to Dundee United.
We see Lawrence as a top player and we want him to be part of our Championship challenge and beyond.
We know Lawrence is very much a player in demand and has a lot of offers elsewhere and we are hopeful things will come to a conclusion, either way, very quickly.
Rumours last week suggested that Shankland had been seen at Sunderland’s Academy of Light as he held talks with the club, but the player is understood to be weighing up his options on the back of a successful spell with Ayr United in which he managed to score 63 goals in just two seasons.
