Target set to depart
A reported Sunderland target is set to depart his club this summer as Oxford United defender Curtis Nelson looks to find a new club.
The centre-back is set to become a free agent at the end of this month and U’s manager Karl Robinson believes he will leave the club and presumes he has a new club lined up:
I’ll be honest, I don’t foresee Curtis being with us next season. I think that’s quite obvious.
I spoke to him about four weeks ago. I presume he’s got something lined up, but we don’t know where.
I want to thank Curtis for everything he’s done.
He gave us everything, at the back end of the season he was arguably one of our better players.
I know when I first came in there were question marks over certain things but every question mark I had over Curtis Nelson he certainly answered.
There’s no arguments, we will always be there for him.
Maybe we’ll cross paths again and he goes with our best wishes.
Youngster to join Aldershot
Sunderland striker Connor Shields is set to join non-league outfit Aldershot Town when his contract expires at the end of this month.
According to Football Insider, Aldershot moved quickly to snap up the young Scot once Sunderland released their retained list and the 21-year-old was absent from it.
Shields initially joined the club from Albion Rovers back in January 2018 but never made a first-team breakthrough and was loaned to Scottish Championship side Alloa Athletic last season.
Kirchhoff joins third tier side
Former Sunderland midfielder Jan Kirchhoff has joined German 3. Liga side KFC Uerdingen on a two-year deal.
The 28-year-old had been playing for FC Magdeburg but only featured 10 times for them last season as they were relegated from the German second tier and has now joined a rival from the same division on a free transfer.
Speaking about the signing Heiko Vogel, Uerdingen’s head coach was delighted to bring him on board:
With Jan Kirchhoff [we have] a great character and absolute key player to change us, he will strengthen and lead the team again decisively. I am pleased that Jan chose the path of KFC Uerdingen and look forward to work with him.
