Sunderland have finally completed the signing of their number one January transfer target Will Grigg after Wigan Athletic accepted their EIGHTH offer for the striker.
The Northern Ireland international has signed a 3 and a half year deal with the club for an initial fee of around £3m - rising to £4m. That fee is the highest in League One history, beating the previous record held by John Brayford’s £2.7m move to Sheffield United (£2.3m), Grigg himself was previously in third place thanks to his initial £1.27m move to Wigan.
Grigg was wanted regardless of whether Josh Maja left the club or not, but pushing through his signing became a priority after our 20-year-old top goalscorer joined Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux last week.
The 27-year-old has only scored four goals in the Championship this season as he has been in and out of the Latics side but scored 19 in League One last season and 26 in all competitions as Wigan went up as champions.
