PLAYER RATINGS: Gillingham 1-0 Sunderland - Absolutely shocking AGAIN from Phil Parkinson

An overly-defensive Sunderland were beaten AGAIN today at Gillingham - surely it’s time for the axe to fall on Phil Parkinson? Here’s how our man watching the match rated the players. SH*TE!

Jon McLaughlin: 5/10

Lucky not to concede in the first half after the ball was debatably adjudged to have not crossed the line when everyone but the officials could see that it did. Other than that, he was okay.

Laurens De Bock: 5/10

Offered next to nothing at either end of the pitch. Genuinely forgot that he was playing to be honest.

Tom Flanagan: 5/10

Typical Flanagan performance really - not particularly assured and didn’t inspire confidence with his performance.

Alim Ozturk: 5/10

Won most of his headers.

Jordan Willis: 5/10

Didn’t really put a foot wrong. Suits a three man defence because of his athleticism but would like to see him back paired with Lynch again soon.

Conor McLaughlin: 4/10

Not really sure what he does. His crosses from deep make me groan whenever you can sense one coming - he really needs to be replaced in January.

Grant Leadbitter: 4/10

Slow, passive, didn’t offer much. Wish it wasn’t this way but Grant is trying his best yet just isn’t able to control games or play to the standard that we need him to these days.

Luke O’Nien: 5/10

Worked hard... and that’s about it.

George Dobson: 5/10

Like De Bock, I hardly noticed that he was even on the pitch, particularly in the first half.

Marc McNulty: 5/10

Pressed well from the front but a pretty unspectacular performance - without any creativity behind him he was always going to struggle.

Will Grigg: 6/10

Some of his hold up play in the first half was really good. Came deep to help link play and at least went looking for the ball.

(SUB) Charlie Wyke: 6/10

Almost made an instant impact when he first came on as a sub - great hold up and strike that went just wide. Unlucky to have one ruled out too.

(SUB) Chris Maguire: N/A

Was brought on far too late.

Man of the Match

Nobody.
