Maja boost incoming?

Sunderland may receive a financial boost thanks to Josh Maja’s form for Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux.

The 20-year-old has been shining in the French top flight this season, recently scoring a hat-trick against Nimes, and that form has reportedly attracted attentions from other clubs despite only signing from Sunderland in January.

Chelsea are rumoured to be interested in the striker’s services, as Frank Lampard looks to provide competition for Tammy Abraham.

Scouts from the London club are reportedly impressed with Maja but scouts from all over Europe were in attendance for Bordeaux’s 1-0 loss to Lamine Kone’s Strasbourg on Sunday evening.

Maja was linked with a move to the Bundesliga and Crystal Palace before moving to Bordeaux and there were representatives from Palace, Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach at the game.

Sunderland are said to have inserted a 10% sell-on fee when they sold him for a fee of £1.5 initially, rising to £3.5m.

Morgan move rejected

Stoke City have seen a loan move for former Sunderland loanee Lewis Morgan rejected by Celtic.

Michael O’Neill was said to have made contact with Celtic’s transfer chief Nicky Hammond as he looks to strengthen his squad but was told that the Scottish champions had no interest in loaning the winger out.

One former Sunderland target that Stoke may have better luck signing is Hastings United midfielder Adam Lovatt.

Lovatt was set to join Sunderland on transfer deadline day on January of last year but problems getting the medical completed on time scuppered the deal.

The 20-year-old has been training with Championship side Stoke and has sufficiently impressed to earn a contract with the Potters, according to TeamTalk.
