It was confirmed today that Sunderland AFC Ladies defender Courtney Stewart has sadly left the club due to medical reasons.
The young defender collapsed during the half-time break of the Lasses away match at Barnsley last weekend, and the club issued the followed statement on the evening of the game:
During the half-time break of today’s game at Barnsley Women’s Football Club defender Courtney Stewart collapsed. She was taken to hospital but was fully conscious by the time she left the stadium. She is okay and out of hospital in Barnsley, returning home before going for further tests tomorrow.
Sadly for Stewart, last weekend's incident wasn't an isolated one after collapsing last season in a match vs AFC Fylde Ladies, and today it has been confirmed that Courtney has now left the club, citing medical reasons as the reasons for the decision.
Everyone at Roker Report wishes Courtney well and good luck in the future.
Absolutely devastated ,but thank you to everyone at the club and I’ll be supporting the girls all the way https://t.co/JNoc0EnqBI
