BBC Sheffield sports editor Andy Giddings has this afternoon claimed that Sunderland have asked Sheffield United to recall Ched Evans from his loan spell with Fleetwood Town so that they can sign him ahead of tomorrow night’s transfer deadline.
Evans, who has scored an impressive twelve goals this season, has been a regular fixture up front for Joey Barton’s side, who sit tenth in the League One table.
Sunderland’s attempts to sign the two forwards that they need before time runs out has so far proven fruitless.
And, with the clock ticking, it would appear that several enquiries for a number of players have been made as the recruitment team at the Academy of Light vow to bolster the striking options at Jack Ross’ disposal.
Yesterday there were reports that we had also explored the possibility of signing Tom Eaves and John Marquis whilst, of course, the ‘will he won’t he?’ saga surrounding Wigan hitman Will Grigg rumbles on - though, rumours this morning suggested that Sunderland’s latest approach had again been rejected by the Championship club.
Understand #SAFC have asked #sufc to recall Ched Evans from his existing loan at #FTFC, in the hope of signing him. But it does appear as tho the Blackcats are after every striker at the minute.
