Despite a fantastic performance last week, Dylan McGeouch can feel aggrieved to have lost his place in Sunderland’s starting eleven as Lee Cattermole returns to the side in his place.
Charlie Wyke - who has, in truth, been poor since returning from injury - also drops to the bench, with top scorer Josh Maja inserted back in to the team up top.
In defence, Jimmy Dunne makes his debut in the side in place of Jack Baldwin, presumably to counter the physicality of a Scunthorpe side who are particularly proficient in the air and on set pieces.
