TEAM NEWS: Bryan Oviedo returns to the starting XI; Aiden McGeady back on the bench

Bryan Oviedo jumps straight back into the Sunderland first team from his Costa Rican equivalent ahead of today’s clash with Burton, and it looks as though Aiden McGeady could finally be ready to make his return as he is named among those on the bench.

It looks like Jack Ross wants to go all out from the get-go if his team selection is anything to go by; dropping the recently under-performing Chris Maguire for the pace of Jerome Sinclair while maintaining an attacking two of Josh Maja and Charlie Wyke.

Adam Matthews retains his place in the side despite his poor showing against Fleetwood, meaning that Tom Flanagan is once again unable to emerge from the bench as he predictably wasn’t able to displace the hitherto solid centre-back parternship of Jack Baldwin and Glenn Loovens.

Taking these changes into account, this is how our team shapes up this afternoon:

Sunderland: Jon McLaughlin, Adam Matthews, Bryan Oviedo, Glenn Loovens, Jack Baldwin, Lee Cattermole, Lynden Gooch, George Honeyman (c), Jerome Sinclair, Josh Maja, Charlie Wyke

Subs: Robbin Ruiter, Alim Ozturk, Denver Hume, Tom Flanagan, Luke O’Nien, Aiden McGeady, Chris Maguire

We need to start turning draws into wins, and this diamond-esque 4-4-2 might just ensure that - even if we once again start poorly - we will ultimately go on to outscore our opposition.

Ha’wayyyyy lads!
