TRANSFER LATEST: Looks like Djilobodji is staying at Sunderland as Hannover confirm NO DEAL

It looks like Sunderland will be stuck with Papy Djilobodji - Hannover have confirmed that, despite their best efforts, they won’t be signing anyone before the German transfer window closes.

Although the transfer window in Germany is open for another hour, we won’t see Papy Djilobodji head for the Bundesliga in the time remaining after Hannover 96 confirmed that they won’t be signing any players before the window closes.

Speaking about potential incoming transfers, the German club’s president Martin Kind said they will have to resort to the free agent market to strength their defence after missing out on Djilobodji and Norwich City’s Timm Klose:

It did not work out for a variety of reasons, if necessary, we use the free market.

Hannover have been linked with a move for out of contract German international Serdar Tasci.

Djilobodji - and Didier Ndong - face an uncertain future, with only Portugal and Qatar as the realistic destinations that are open for business after the close of play today - Qatar’s transfer window closes on September 13 and Portugal on the 21st.
