Sunderland are on the verge of signing Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Luke O’Nien, and have agreed both a fee and personal terms with the player.
O’Nien had a stand out season in League Two last year, with nine goals and four assists from midfield as Wycombe were promoted to League One after finishing third.
The 23-year-old only had one year remaining on his contract at Adams Park and had been attracting the attention of Luton Town but Sunderland swooped and, with personal terms already agreed, are set to wrap up the signing tomorrow once he has completed a medical.

O’Nien came through the ranks at Watford but only made one appearance for the Hornets before being released in 2015. He signed for Wycombe later that summer after a successful trial with the Chairboys and made 119 appearances in all competitions for the club.
In an article with TodayOnline last year, Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth was asked about O’Nien’s impact in his side and was quoted as saying:
Luke will destroy his opposite number’s game.
He won’t let the guy he’s up against breathe for a minute on the pitch.
