Dear Roker Report,
The talking stops - now it’s time to spend some money as the Darlington performance shows.
For Christ’s sake, let’s get some decent players in. The rhetoric we’ve heard is that we’re going to have the best squad in League One - yet again this is a pipe dream, we’ve been beaten for signatures for players by the likes of Charlton, had a trialist up front that I have never heard of... come on, what’s going on?
It’s only three weeks or so before the season starts and again we are miles away from having even a half decent team, it’s the same old story. Come on Stewart, prove me wrong.
Mark Wild
Ed’s Note [Gav]: Sorry, but a knee-jerk reaction to a friendly that was nothing more than a fitness exercise isn’t going to help anyone. If we still have the same squad the day before the Charlton game then I’ll be worried - but I’m told there will be incomings over the coming days and that things will look a lot clearer a week from now.
Let’s not overreact!

Dear Roker Report,
I disagree with Ed’s note from yesterday’s edition of Fan Letters about the new strip.
I like the shirt but hate the stupid red shorts!
Chris S
Ed’s Note [Gav]: I think they look nice - though my sense if style isn’t traditional so can see why people mightn’t like it. Hey, I’m willing to try anything if it helps improve our fortunes. Maybe the black shorts have been our bad luck charm all along!

Dear Roker Report,
I’m very disappointed that the new shirt has a red back.
I’ve bought quite a few in the past but won’t be buying one of these if that’s the best Adidas can do.
We need a new supplier!
Jim Benham
Ed’s Note [Gav]: Like I said above I don’t really mind it. I know it’s not traditional but on the whole it’s a nice kit I think. I don’t buy them anyways unless they go on offer for a tenner at the end of the season - imagine what you could buy with that £50?

Dear Roker Report,
Talk about disrespecting tradition... what on Earth are Adidas playing at?
I don’t care about their ridiculous policy on strips, Sunderland AFC have NEVER played with a plain backed shirt so why should we now? Honestly, it’s ridiculous. We need to get rid of this joke of a supplier and go with someone more traditional, like Hummel or Avec.
And the less said about the red shorts the better.
I’m just glad that it wasn’t Stewart Donald that agreed to this farce - another reminder of Martin Bain and his shameful Sunderland legacy!
Brian Hume
Ed’s Note [Gav]: You lads have got me questioning my own judgement now - are they really that bad? I think they look smart! Just think, it could have been worse - we could have ended up with that brown effort they gave Brentford.
