International striker targeted?

Sunderland have been linked with a move for AFC Wimbledon striker Lyle Taylor. The 6’2” Montserrat international is out of contract with the Dons this summer and has been stalling on a new deal, which means he is available on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old has had a much travelled career, racking up 11 clubs to varying degrees of success. He is AFC Wimbledon’s record Football League goalscorer and has scored 55 goals in 150 games for the club, including 18 goals last season.

He also had a successful spell in Scotland, when he scored 29 goals in 42 games in all competitions with Jack Ross’ old club Falkirk.

According to the Daily Mail, we’ll face competition for the player by Bristol Rovers, Burton Albion, Ipswich Town, Peterborough United, Southend United and Wigan Athletic.

Sunderland trio in international action

Sunderland u23 goalkeeper Michael Woud made his senior debut for the New Zealand national team yesterday as beat India 2-1 in their final group match in the HERO Intercontinental Cup.

Woud’s Sunderland developmental squad team-mate Sam Brotherton also started the game, which the All Whites won thanks to goals from Andre De Jong and Moses Dyer.

Woud and Brotherton both played the full 90 minutes but they will have to wait for the result of today’s game between Chinese Taipei and Kenya to find out whether they’ll progress to the final.

Bryan Oviedo was in the starting line-up for Costa Rica as they faced England at Elland Road. Oviedo started at left wing back for the visitors but struggled to get involved in the game, with England dominating possession and was eventually substituted with half an hour to go.

England, who were captained by Sunderland academy graduate Jordan Henderson, won 2-0 thanks to a stunning goal by Marcus Rashford and a diving header by former Sunderland loanee Danny Welbeck.

More suitors for Khazri

Sunderland may have an auction on their hands in regards to Wahbi Khazri as more clubs line up to take the Tunisian star off our hands.

Coming off the back of an excellent season while on loan with Rennes, he had already been linked with a return to Rennes, as well as fellow Ligue 1 sides Marseille, Lyon and Nice but now it appears as if Monaco and Roma have entered the running for his signature.

Roma are eyeing Khazri as a potential alternative to Ajax midfielder - and one-time Sunderland target - Hakim Ziyech, with the Italian press suggesting Sunderland want €20m for the 27-year-old.
