Earlier this afternoon, Alan Nixon - respected transfer news writer for The Sun - reported that Jack Rodwell is a target of Championship club Bolton Wanderers.
The former England midfielder will be released from his contract this coming Monday, thus making him available to speak with other clubs and then eventually sign for them on a permanent basis.
In his article Nixon alleged that Bolton are actually in talks already with the player, but then got a bit confusing when he started talking about the details around his release - and even alleged that Bolton might take him on loan, which isn’t a possibility considering Sunderland AFC have already released a statement to confirm that he’ll be leaving the club.
The rumour, however, was quickly debunked by Marc Iles of the Bolton News, who has apparently reached out to The Trotters in order to find out if their interest in the ex-Manchester City and Everton midfielder is legitimate.
It's fair to say the link to Jack Rodwell has been kiboshed by Wanderers. One for Ripley's, I think... #bwfc

So, that’s that.
It is thought that Rodwell is keen on a move to the MLS and that his representatives have already spoken to clubs in North America in order to work out whether finding him a club there is a possibility.
He’s also been linked in the Greek press with a move to Aris Thessaloniki, who achieved promotion from the second tier last season and are about to embark upon a campaign in the top flight for the first time since they were demoted after administration in 2014.
And I know what you’re thinking - Jack Rodwell is exactly the kind of person you need when you’ve had your club decimated by financial issues in recent years, so no doubt the Aris fans would be over the moon to see him walk through the door.
