Dear Roker Report,
Re: Neil Hamilton’s letter to RokerReport.com yesterday...
I saw my first Sunderland match v Arsenal at Poker Park in 1949. Now I live in Bournemouth, (who by the way are a bit special with their never say die approach to every match), and follow them but can’t get a ticket to watch them as they are always sold out but Sunderland are my team and always will be. I listen to the Sunderland games every week on SAFC Matchday.
I’m sorry that makes me not a true Sunderland supporter, according to Neil Hamilton.

Ed’s note: Neil’s letter yesterday certainly caused a stir on social media! Whilst I wholeheartedly disagreed with what he had to say I’d like to note that, provided people aren’t overly offensive towards others, that we’re happy to use our letters page to give our readers a chance to have their say whether we necessarily agree or not.
Dear Roker Report,
Well there would be another three season card holders if the club hadn’t decided that my old man (90-year old at the time) sitting in his folding wheelchair watching the game was causing an obstruction, and that he had to leave the stadium.
Aren’t disabled people and semi-ambulant people allowed to do this?
So my father (who in his youth used to walk from Blackhall to Roker Park as he only had bus fare for one way), myself and my daughter will never be returning to Sunderland no matter how well they are playing. My father saw his first match which was against Arsenal in 1936, his last was also against Arsenal last season. The club is an utter shambles from top to bottom.
Mr A. Reed
Ed’s note: I don’t know what to say really - that’s just incredibly sad.
Dear Roker Report,
This talk of a supporter’s takeover is creasing me up with laughter - has every one forgotten when we paid £585 pounds-per-share, only for Quinny to take them away from us for £100? All done very nicely of course - “you know its for the good of the club”, we were told. My arse - it was done for profit and the supporters paid the price.

Ed’s note: I think that people might benefit from perhaps having it explained properly to them what potential there is for fan ownership, and whether it’s plausible. We’ll look to bring you something here on the site in the coming days!
Dear Roker Report,
Regarding fan ownership - it’s a good idea. Don’t forget, Bournemouth supporters did a similar thing when they were desperate, and look at them now.
Also perhaps you could get some businesses around the area to help - Nissan comes to mind. After all, they’d see productivity rise if the team is doing well!
Keep the faith.
Mike Thompson
Ed’s note: It might seem like a pipe-dream, but aye - I live in hope that a wealthy Sunderland fan is out there and is willing to invest a fortune into the club!
Dear Roker Report,
My name is George T. Wilson, a Liberian living in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa.
I’ve been a fan of Sunderland AFC ever since 2013 when I started following English football. From the look of things, Sunderland AFC urgently needs new owners, new investment, fresh ideas, and new talents. I believed Ellis Short has done all he could but currently lacks new ideas. He would rather see us relegated to the English National League than to think up new strategies.
Every time Sunderland lose a game, my friends in my community laugh at me. Please help find investors that innovative to come and buy our club. I really wish I had that financial strength to buy Sunderland AFC.
George Wilson
Ed’s note: My friends laugh at me too when we lose mate. I feel your pain!
