Fan Letters: “Martin Bain needs to get on to the phone to Niall Quinn and SAVE SUNDERLAND!”

“He was the one man who brought the clubs hierarchy and players together and the club needs that feel good factor now more than ever”, says RR reader Paul Cook. Got something to say? Email us: - we’ll include your message in the next edition.

Dear Roker Report,

The one person who seems to be immune from criticism is Chris Coleman.

We all welcomed him and prayed he could get the team to play with passion and give 100% - what a wish that was.

He has proved himself incapable of getting any more than the odd 10 minutes or last 20 minutes from the team. We are worse now than when he came.

He talks the talk, says what we want to hear (he certainly has the Welsh gift of the gab) but when it comes to doing what he is paid for, he’s a joke. The players just don’t care and it’s there for all to see.

You can’t blame the players if their just not good enough, they don’t pick themselves.

Coleman’s job is only about one thing-picking the right team and sending them out to die, or at least give 100% for this club.

We hear that O’Shea and Cattermole are the role models for the younger players and the backbone of the team. What a sick joke that is. They are both well past it and should have been shifted out two years ago.

No wonder our youngsters are struggling with no direction. Managing Wales with a squad of passionate Welsh players (already motivated without his input) including two world class ones is light years away from the second rate players he has at Sunderland. If I’m wrong then let Coleman show me by getting eleven players to give 100% for 90 minutes. I won’t hold my breath.

Ed’s note: I can’t tell you that you are wrong, Sam, because the evidence is there. But I do think, personally, that Coleman has both hands tied behind his back with these players. You have to ask: why have so many managers came here and been unable to improve this group of players?

Dear Roker Report,

We have fifteen games to go and the club is in a mess - confidence is rock bottom and we all need a lift.

If I was in Martin Bain’s position right now I’d be picking the phone up and calling Niall Quinn, asking him to come along and get involved with the club again. He was the one man who brought the clubs hierarchy and players together and the club needs that feel good factor now more than ever.

So please Martin... give him a call...

You can even use my phone to save any additional costs!

Paul Cook

Ed’s note: As much as big Niall loves Sunderland I think it’d take a substantial amount of money to make him come anywhere near this absolute sh*t-show again!

Dear Roker Report,

Where do I start...

Sunderland is in my blood - I love the club nearly as much as my wife.

On Saturday I left the ground feeling more p*ssed off than ever. I have witnessed so much crap during my 49 years supporting the lads. Players like Cattermole, O’Shea, McGeady (pass the ball, for f*ck sake) are not helping our cause one bit.

Don’t get me started on Short and Bain... Bain’s spell at Rangers should have set the alarm bells ringing!

I’m now at the point where it’s time to stop going to matches until Short has gone.

Surely someone must want to buy or beloved club - even frigging Wigan have been bought! We are just a poisoned chalice.

Mal Patterson

Ed’s note: It’s distressing that so many die-hard fans of 40+ years have finally had enough. I worry about how many people will actually turn up next season, regardless of whether we go down or not.
