Team News: Sunderland name strongest squad yet - Maguire & Honeyman return to the starting XI!

With cup competitions out of the way for now, Jack Ross has reverted back to the League One side which most recently triumphed over promotion rivals Barnsley.

The commonly accepted ‘strongest’ Sunderland side is back for this afternoon’s clash with Accrington Stanley, with the likes of George Honeyman and Chris Maguire returning to the starting eleven.

As a consequence, solid cup performers Robbin Ruiter, Luke O’Nien and Dylan McGeouch have found themselves relegated to the bench. Jon McLaughlin, of course, is the man replacing Ruiter.

Taking these changes into account, here’s how the Lads look:

Sunderland: Jon McLaughlin, Adam Matthews, Jack Baldwin, Tom Flanagan, Reece James, Max Power, George Honeyman (c), Lynden Gooch, Chris Maguire, Aiden McGeady, Josh Maja

Subs: Robbin Ruiter, Bryan Oviedo, Glenn Loovens, Luke O’Nien, Dylan McGeouch, Alim Ozturk, Jerome Sinclair

Seventeen games unbeaten is a very realistic potentiality come the final whistle this afternoon; let’s just hope it’s a win rather than a draw. Ha’way the Lads!
