Earlier today we suggested that Jack Ross would make a couple of changes to the team that started against Wycombe Wanderers last week.
Last Saturday, the introduction of Max Power and Josh Maja for Dylan McGeough and Jerome Sinclair respectively, barely ten minutes into the second half, helped Sunderland secure a point that took The Lads within two points of leaders Portsmouth. This morning, we anticipated both would start the match today in place of the pair they replaced during that game at the Stadium of Light.
Part of the thinking behind the changes was down to the injuries that both McGeough and Sinclair had been carrying this week. Ross also mentioned Chris Maguire had been struggling.
Therefore, it’s no surprise to see the team sheet produced for the away game at The Bescot Stadium. There is also a start today for Bryan Oviedo who has been named to replace Chris Maguire.
With kick-off an hour away, this is today’s confirmed line-up:
Sunderland: Jon McLaughlin, Adam Matthews, Tom Flanagan, Jack Baldwin, Reece James, George Honeyman (c), Max Power, Lynden Gooch, Aiden McGeady, Bryan Oviedo, Josh Maja
Subs: Patterson, Mumba, Loovens, O’Nien, Maguire, Ozturk, Sinclair
Can this side return to winning ways today? Can Sunderland secure the three points that will put further pressure on Portsmouth? Indeed, if Scunthorpe can avoid defeat as they host the current league leaders, Sunderland could find themselves top by 5pm!
Ha’way, The Lads!
