Robbin Ruiter - 8
Made an outstanding save at the end of the game to keep Scunthorpe from scoring. Had plenty to do in the first half and looked comfortable - I'm impressed based on the two performances I've seen. Very vocal, too, which is welcoming. Give the lad a contract!
Brendan Galloway - 3
Very poor in the first half and not much better in the second before he was brought off for Billy Jones. Looks uncomfortable at left back, and gives the ball away far too much. He appears like a centre half playing out of position.
Lamine Kone - 6
Solid enough. Can't say that he was overly good or bad - just a straight-forward performance.
John O'Shea - 6
As with Kone, didn't do a great deal wrong.
Adam Matthews - 7
Our best player in the opening forty-five. Looked very comfortable and dealt with Scunthorpe's wide players well. Quieter in the second but did himself no harm.
Darron Gibson - 4
Very ineffective. Doesn't close down or press enough which allows the opposition to come onto us easily.
Elliott Embleton - 6
Struggled for the opening twenty minutes or so but once he got comfortable he put his foot on the ball and moved it well.
George Honeyman - 7
Very good. Grafted, moved the ball well - probably should have scored but a decent performance regardless.
Aiden McGeady - 6
Quiet in the first half and struggled to get into the game, though that was largely down to the poor distribution from our defence, launching it aimlessly forward.
Joel Asoro - 7
Quiet in the first half but worked hard and tried to fashion his own opportunities. Had a really good strike saved by Gilks late in the game.
James Vaughan - 6
Grafts his nutts off. Shame that the service to him is largely awful. Really hope that he scores at the weekend to relieve some of the pressure.
Substitutes
Didier Ndong - 7
We are infinitely better when he is on the pitch. Proper energetic and adds nuisence value to our midfield. Really hope that he stays for this season at least.
Lee Cattermole - 7
As soon as he came on we raised our energy levels. Put a cracking ball on a plate for Honeyman that he should have converted and threw in some big tackles for extra measure.
Wahbi Khazri - 5
Busy but sloppy.
Billy Jones - 6
Didn't do much of note.
Donald Love - 6
Didn't do much of note.
Tom Beadling - 6
Wasn't on long enough to impact the game.
