Fan Letters: A mixed bag of responses; Some think Coleman will keep Sunderland up, others don’t

Dear Roker Report,

I was disappointed to read some tweets from my fellow Sunderland supporters during last night's match.

People were tweeting stuff like ‘so and so is a complete disgrace’, ‘we're shit’, ‘same old Sunderland’ etc.

It turns out we'd actually more than held our own in general play.

The first Villa goal was arguably a foul on Adam Matthews, and the second was a huge deflection. Granted, we struggled creating chances as per usual, but if the players are to gain confidence then our supporters have to try and back them.

Yes, the hierarchy at the club is amateurish and clueless in many ways but if we don't all try and back the lads on the pitch we’ll end up in League One.

Dear Roker Report,

I have been following yous for some time now, and love everything you do! I check your twitter for all of the latest news instead of the official pages.

I think its very naive to think that we are anywhere near getting out of the mess we are in.

I would not be surprised in the slightest if we get thumped by Burton Albion at the weekend and I believe we all need to come to our senses - we are in another relegation battle.

We shouldn’t get too disheartened when we get beat week in, week out because to be quite honest we just aren’t good enough and the sooner people realise this the better, because it just sets us great fans up for even more heartache down the line.

I love everything you guys do - this is just the point of view of a young Sunderland supporter who is sadly losing all interest in a club which means so much to me.

I hope that the lads can turn it around, but to be quite honest it would not surprise me one bit if we are playing League One football next season.

Dear Roker Report,

We are getting relegated in my opinion.

No, I don't fear it.

I fear more bad recruitment, expensive band-aids that don't stop the bleeding, and an uncommitted owner.

Relegation is positive or negative depending on what happens from there because this club needs to start from scratch.

Dear Roker Report,

With Coleman in, our situation is a new situation.

An opportunity to rebuild.

So don’t let the past poison our thoughts of the present, just feed passion and courage to the new gaffer and the squad.

With that, a more positive feel good factor could maybe build up - and then see what happens from there.

Look at the team spirit of the Wales squad in the Euros.

Who’d have ever predicted they’d get as far as the semi final, beating teams of much handier players.

We can do it with more encouragement!
