West Brom 2-0 SAFC: Player Ratings & Man of the Match Poll

Sunderland lost yet again this afternoon against West Bromwich Albion - here's how they rated - remember to vote in the poll below for your man of the match.

Vito Mannone - 5

Not enough of a commanding presence and we need our goalkeeper to at least be able to kick a ball. Vito is one of the longest serving, more experienced members of this side and I don't feel that we can confidently rely on him.

Billy Jones - 5

He tries alot but he's just not up to scratch. Hasn't been quite the same player since Duncan Watmore left the side through injury - now, he's more like the Billy Jones we've known for many years.

Jason Denayer - 4

Struggled massively in the back three, though I have a degree of sympathy for him as his manager clearly has no idea where to play him. Always ends up being moved around the pitch and that cannot be helping his form.

Not entirely convinced that he was *THAT* hurt that he could no longer play, either.

John O'Shea - 4

All over the place at times and he's clearly just not quick enough to play at this level any more. He's the captain but how much of an influence he actually has on the players on the pitch is questionable.

Papy Djilobodji - 4

Hopeless, again. You can see why Senegal opted against taking him away to the Cup of Nations tournament.

Patrick Van Aanholt - 3

His head has unquestionably been turned and he doesn't look interested any more. Was torn to bits by Phillips in the first half and never recovered.

Jack Rodwell - 5

Started fairly brightly but he was invisible after the first half an hour. That disgusting record of never having started in a winning Sunderland side that he has hanging over him isn't going to go away any time soon.

George Honeyman - 7 (Gav's MOTM)

Our best player, like he was on Tuesday at Burnley. Tried his heart out but it must be frustrating - especially as a local lad - when the players around you couldn't give two shits about this football club.

Sebastian Larsson - 5

Ran about loads, pointed a bit, wasted set pieces. The usual.

Adnan Januzaj - 4

Another player that is a complete lost cause. Isn't cut out for a relegation battle.

Jermain Defoe - 5

Cut a frustrated figure and came short to receive and win the ball alot more than he usually does. Looked visibly narked for most of the game and you'd be a fool not to think that he's got one eye on a move away to another club in this window - and why wouldn't he? Far better teams than ours will be interested in having him and he doesn't need this rubbish any more.

Victor Anichebe - 5 (sub)

Shouldn't have been anywhere near the pitch because he's had one day's training and that is just irresponsible, particularly knowing that he's prone to injuries and muscle issues. Not quite sure why Moyes did that.

Fabio Borini - 5 (sub)

Was rightly dropped after a string of shocking performances and it wasn't as though he was missed. Came on with ten minutes to go with the game already lost and had no influence whatsoever.
