Stoke City 1-1 Sunderland: Player Ratings

Sunderland drew with Stoke at the Britannia, here’s how the lads played.

Vito Mannone – 6

Mannone had very little to do and not a great deal he could have done with the goal as Arnautovic was close to goal.

Patrick Van Aanholt – 6

Solid defensively and got forward down the line all day although his delivery wasn’t good. He also wasted a couple of good chances by shooting instead of passing

DeAndre Yedlin – 6

Much like Van Aanholt in defence he was solid. He got forward as much as he could but a lot of play was down Van Aanholt’s wing.

Younes Kaboul – 7

The centre backs did good as Stoke didn’t have many chances down the middle. Kaboul was fouled for Stoke’s goal as Crouch was all over the back of him.

Lamine Kone – 7

He dealt with Stoke’s main threat well like Kaboul as Mannone didn’t have much to save.

Jan Kirchhoff – 7

Kirchhoff won a lot of balls in midfield although his passing wasn’t as good as it has been, he still kept things ticking over in midfield.

Lee Cattermole – 6

He put himself about in midfield although there wasn’t the usual tenacious drive and his passing wasn’t good.

Yann M’Vila – 6

M’Vila’s passing let him down today as he keeps trying to force the ball to Defoe when the pass isn’t on. He did play the ball to Defoe to win the penalty and that shows he needs to play the quick short passes instead of the long balls.

Wahbi Khazri – 5

He was ineffective today and his delivery wasn’t good from his corners in the first half. He was brought off in the second half.

Fabio Borini – 5

Borini couldn’t really get into the game as Sunderland didn’t pass the ball well at all in the first half. He was subbed in the second half.

Jermain Defoe – 7

Defoe didn’t have a lot of good service and he had to work hard all day to create as much as he could. He won and scored the penalty.

Duncan Watmore – 6 (sub)

He added much needed energy which was lacking all game until his introduction. He did plenty of running and that helped pin Stoke back at the end.

Dame N’Doye – 2 (sub)

Terrible touch, awful passing. Really struggling to see what Sam sees in him.

Seb Larsson – 6 (sub)

Larsson came on to add extra bite in midfield and that’s what he did. His deliveries were better than Khazri and he generally drove the team to get forward.

Man Of The Match – Jermain Defoe
