Liverpool 2-2 Sunderland: Player Ratings

Sunderland fought back to grab a point at Anfield, here’s how the lads played.

Vito Mannone– 7

Made two great saves from Ibe and Lallana to keep it 1-0 at a stage and nothing he could have done with the goals.

Patrick Van Aanholt – 7

He was involved in most of Sunderland’s attacks as they mostly came down the left and he was constant threat. He was played clean through but he hit the side netting when he should have squared the ball to Defoe.

Billy Jones– 3

Not good from Jones today. He was completely at fault for Lallana’s goal when he took forever on the ball before losing it to Firmino. Brought off for Yedlin when score was 2-0.

John O’Shea– 7

Looks better with the extra pace of Kone playing alongside him and generally another good outing from O’Shea. Not a lot the centre backs could have done to prevent the goals.

Lamine Kone – 7

A solid performance from Kone who looks to have slotted in nicely at this level. Liverpool played a lot in front of the centre backs but not a lot of chances were created down the middle.

Jan Kirchhoff – 6

Another good performance from Kirchhoff who looks a lot more settled in midfield, not as good as his midweek performance but he put in a good shift.

Lee Cattermole – 6

He seems to be getting further up the pitch with Kirchhoff in behind him but his control let him down today but at least we’re seeing some midfield runners.

Yann M’Vila – 6

Not a good first half as he played a lot of misplaced passes however his second half performance was much better as he controlled the game better.

Wahbi Khazri – 8

He set up the equaliser and was generally full of running all game in both attack and defence. It took a while before Sunderland really found their feet but when they did he was instrumental in the attacks.

Duncan Watmore– 5

Came off injured early on so he didn’t really have much time to do much.

Jermain Defoe– 8

Left stranded for much of the game but when the big chance came he buried it.

Dame N’Doye– 5 (sub)

Came on for Watmore, but at the minute he doesn’t really look good enough to warrant a start nor to make an impact.

Adam Johnson– 7 (sub)

Scored the free kick that got Sunderland back in the game, but he didn’t do a lot else, but its goals that matter and his free kick started the comeback.

DeAndre Yedlin – 6 (sub)

Came on for Jones and he looked much better, but Sunderland were attacking more at that stage.

Man Of The Match – Wahbi Khazri
