Sunderland 2-1 Manchester United: Player Ratings

Sunderland beat Manchester United at the Stadium of Light, here’s how the lads played.

Vito Mannone– 6

Could have palmed the ball away for a corner instead of giving Martial a chance to score from the rebound. He made a couple of straightforward saves and one decent one from Memphis near the end.

Patrick Van Aanholt – 8

Getting better defensively and he continues to play an important role in attacks which he seems to be doing most weeks.

DeAndre Yedlin– 8

Sunderland looked a lot more balanced with pace on both flanks, and Yedlin goes forward with more purpose than Jones. A great performance both in attack and more importantly defence from Yedlin.

John O’Shea– 8

The partnership between Kone and O’Shea seems to be working very well and both look completely comfortable in defence. A solid performance from O’Shea against his former club.

Lamine Kone – 9

Allardyce has unearthed a real gem in Kone. A proper no nonsense performance and a constant threat from set pieces. The defence looks a good unit with him adding much needed pace.

Jan Kirchhoff – 6

Went off injured early on without making much impact, although he looked a bit slow on the ball at times.

Lee Cattermole – 7

A better performance from Cattermole today as the Sunderland midfield really hunted in packs today and he was at the heart of that.

Yann M’Vila – 7

Same as Cattermole especially in defensive areas although his passing in recent weeks hasn’t been as good as it has been, but a good solid shift from M’Vila.

Wahbi Khazri – 9

Another gem found by Allardyce, Khazri’s delivery from set pieces was a threat all day. He scored from a free kick and he took the corner for Kone’s goal. Also plays his part in defensive areas too.

Dame N’Doye– 6

Was played clean through on goal in the second half but was denied by De Gea. He didn’t look comfortable on the wing but he did a lot better when he played through the middle.

Jermain Defoe– 7

Full of running and he generally made a nuisance of himself in the United defence. He went close early in the game but he couldn’t get good enough contact on the ball.

Jack Rodwell– 6 (sub)

Battled hard in the middle and made a great block in the second half to deny a potential goal. A lot better from Rodwell.

Fabio Borini– 6 (sub)

Another good shift from Borini, constantly running trying to create.

Ola Toivonen – 6 (sub)

Came on after Kone’s goal, he added a bit more height and he made a couple of clearances.

Man Of The Match – Wahbi Khazri
