Steven Fletcher will see out the remainder of his Sunderland contract while on loan at Marseille.

Steven Fletcher has completed his shock move to Ligue 1 side Marseille after he joined the Velodrome club on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Fletcher only had six months left on his Sunderland contract and this deal will allow the Scottish international to run down his contract at the Stadium of Light while he tries to impress the French club enough to earn a permanent deal in the summer.

Marseille welcomed the 28-year-old to the club and gave a quick run down of what their fans can expect from their new striker;

He will not leave you unmoved. He will not go unnoticed. OM have added a Scotsman to it's mix. And if you know anything about the mentality of that people, you'll know that's good news.

He also has the frank look: This is a fighter. We already love...

While he is not known to be a technical player, Steven Fletcher, uses his entire 1.85m height to test the opponent's defenses through an imposing physique.

Quite.

Fletcher leaves Sunderland having scored 23 goals in 108 appearances and those goals leave him fifth in the goalscoring charts for Sunderland in the Premier League, with only Kevin Phillips, Niall Quinn, Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones ahead of him.

Although Fletcher himself won't be missed, the lack of a direct replacement is a worry with the team relying a little too heavily on Jermain Defoe and letting a £12m signing leave on loan ahead of a free transfer is obviously poor business.

Regardless, good luck to Fletcher at Marseille and it will be interesting to see how he gets on in Ligue 1.
